There were numerous Irish pubs along Kilburn High Road leading to the infamous Cricklewood Broadway and just beyond was the iconic Galtymore dance-hall where we all congregated at the weekends. I remember when I was 16, my governor was taking over another pub and I said Im not looking after your pub because I want to get out to the dances. I trust these memories will serve me well enough to take a trip along the High Road using some very old and more recent shots I have gleaned from Flickr, recalling what my experiences were at the time and little snippets of information. For the young men (typically) who came here to build roads and railways, this was a home from home. Once the largest cinema in Europe it had varied past as a club and dance hall, and a church of another denomination before being converted into a UCKG HelpCentre. When he died on 14 June 1956 , his addresses were Exeter Road and Seddscombe , Sussex .
